Implementation of public service in water management

Public services in water management are:

  • operations and maintenance of water infrastructure, intended for preserving and regulating water quantities;
  • operations, maintenance and monitoring water infrastructure, purposed for the protection against harmful effects of water;
  • implementation of extraordinary measures during increased level of endangerment due to harmful effects of water;
  • maintenance of water and coastal land, excluding mandatory state public utility service for maintaining water and coastal land of the sea;
  • ensuring water protection surveillance.
By implementing public services on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia in public interest, the following is ensured:

  • preservation and regulation of water quantities;
  • monitoring the situation and protection against harmful effects of water, including the implementation of extraordinary measures during increased level of endangerment;
  • maintenance of water infrastructure, waste and coastal land;
  • water protection surveillance and
  • the care for hydro-morphological state of the water regime.

Water infrastructure is used for the implementation of public services, and is free of charge for them. Public service in water regulation must be ensured in all conditions, all seasons and on a timely basis as well as in the scope in accordance with the annual programme, prepared by the Slovenian Environment Agency (ARSO).

Public services are implemented on the entire territory of the Republic of Slovenia based on an acquired concession.
