The introduction and use of non-indigenous species of organisms for the biological protection of plants

For the purpose of biological plant protection, indigenous and non-indigenous species of organisms on the list of indigenous species and the list of non-indigenous species are used. These are beneficial organisms, such as living natural enemies, antagonists, or competitors, or their products and other organisms that can reproduce by themselves.

In order to introduce and use non-indigenous species of organisms in the territory of the Republic of Slovenia, a permit must be obtained from the relevant competent authority which is issued with the approval of the ministry responsible for nature conservation.

In order to obtain the permit, the applicant must provide:

  • a professional responsible person who has valid supporting documentation proving the fulfilment of conditions regarding education and professional training and is responsible for the introduction, use, performance monitoring, and the spreading of non-indigenous species of organisms;
  • an introduction or population programme which shows the introduction of non-indigenous species of organisms according to time and quantity;
  • a list of recipients of users of non-indigenous species of organisms;a;
