Import and distribution of potatoes
Third country importers (from non-EU member states) and distributors who move potatoes (sort, pack, or wash) for commercial or non-commercial purposes within the EU must obtain official approval of a potato warehouse.
Potato shall be understood as seed potatoes and other potatoes (table, fodder, and industrial potatoes), fresh or chilled, under tariff number 0791 of the Combined Nomenclature.
Each shipment must undergo a phytosanitary check and must be suitably labelled and recorded.

Applicants who wish to pursue this activity must register the business activity, and have the appropriate legal status.

Phytosanitary inspection of potato shipment is carried out by the competent phytosanitary inspector:
- at the first entry point to the EU, where other administrative import formalities, including customs, are performed;
- in case of entry from another EU member state in the distributor's storage facility and randomly in accordance with the annual programme of special monitoring or if the competent authority suspects the presence of harmful organisms;
- in case where potatoes are not stored, at any time and anywhere, if the phytosanitary inspector suspects the presence of harmful organisms.

Importer or distributor relocating potato tubers on the territory of the Republic of Slovenia must ensure that each packaging unit of ware potato tubers is marked by a label before relocation with at least the following data:
- importer's or distributor's registration number;
- origin (country of origin or production area);
- potato variety;
- quantity of potatoes;
- mark: "NOT FOR PLANTING".
