Decision on the recognition of professional qualifications

Within the scope of the procedure, the competent authority may request the opinion of the competent chamber or organisation, otherwise, the competent authority may issue a decision without such an opinion. The issue of the decision is not bound by the opinion.

The competent authority in the procedure compares the written documentation of professional qualifications with the professional qualifications required by Slovenian regulations to perform a regulated profession or activity. If, based on this comparison, the competent authority assesses that the professional qualifications do not comply, the authority issues a temporary decision requesting them to carry out one of the additional actions required for the recognition of their professional qualifications with regard to the circumstances of the case:

•  a test of professional competence or
• an adjustment period during which they meet the missing conditions for the recognition of their professional qualifications.

The competent authority issues a decision on the recognition of professional qualifications for the practice of an individual regulated profession or activity in the Republic of Slovenia:

•  if, based on the application, it assesses that the professional qualifications of the applicant comply with the professional qualifications required by regulations in the Republic of Slovenia to practice an individual regulated profession or activity,
• following the submission of evidence of a successfully performed adjustment period or a professional competence test.

The decision on the recognition of professional qualifications enables applicants to practice the regulated profession in the Republic of Slovenia for which they have qualified in the EU or EEA Member State or the Swiss Confederation, i.e. under the same conditions that apply to Slovenian citizens. It is important that activities within the scope of a profession are comparable.
