Import and export permits and re-export certificate (CITES)
The import of animals and plants, and parts or derivatives thereof, listed in Annexes A and B of Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97, requires a prior import permit. For species listed in Annex A, a special certificate is also required for intra-EU trade.

Where and how to apply
An application for a permit for import and export, and for a re-export certificate (CITES) can be submitted:
- in electronic form via the SPOT portal or
- in person or by post to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning.

The applicant should complete the prescribed form and attach to the application:
- proof of legal acquisition of specimens; in the case of import of specimens of species listed in the CITES Appendices from a third country, this should be an export permit or re-export certificate or a copy of such permit or certificate issued in accordance with the CITES Convention by the competent authority of the country of export or re-export;
- proof that the intended accommodation for a living specimen at the destination is suitably equipped so that the specimen will be properly maintained and cared for;
- statement or proof that the specimens listed in Annex A will not be used for primarily commercial purposes;
- certificate of payment of the administrative fee.
For the export or re-export of specimens listed in Annexes A, B and C to Council Regulation (EC) No 338/97, the exporter must obtain an export permit or re-export certificate beforehand. The applicant should complete the prescribed form and attach to the application:
- proof of legal acquisition of specimens; if the specimens were not acquired in the Republic of Slovenia but in another EU Member State, the proof should be a certificate from the competent administrative authority of the Member State of origin of the specimen certifying that the specimen was acquired in accordance with the regulations in force in its territory;
- certificate of payment of the administrative fee.
