Processing and preserving of meat

Regulations and conditions:

 

  • Decree on supplementary activities in agriculture

    A supplementary farm activity may start to be implemented after the finality of the permit for the pursuit of supplementary farm activity and after all conditions determined by the sector regulations for the start of pursuing an individual supplementary activity are fulfilled.

    Applies to the following activities/services:

    • slaughter of animals

  • Regulation (EC) 853/2004 laying down specific hygiene rules for on the hygiene of foodstuffs and Rules on the establishments carrying out activities involving food of animal origin.

Prior to the provision of activities the food processing plants producing food of animal origin must be registered or approved in accordance with the Rules on the establishments carrying out activities involving food of animal origin.

      Slaughter of animals is performed in slaughterhouses which are obliged to ensure sufficient working and technical conditions.

  • List of activities usually carried out as a craft

    For activities listed on the List of activities usually carried out as a craft, business entities registering these activities must also enter in the register of crafts at the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia (OZS) ex officio.

        This applies for the following activities/services:

    • operation of slaughterhouses engaged in killing, dressing or packing meat: beef, pork, lamb, rabbit etc.
    • production of fresh, chilled or frozen bone-in meat;
    • production of fresh, chilled or frozen meat, in cuts;
    • slaughtering and processing of whales on land or on specialised vessels;
    • production of hides and skins originating from slaughterhouses;
    • rendering of lard and other edible fats of animal origin, excluding poultry fats;
    • processing of animal offal;
    • production of bone meal;
    • production of pulled wool, horsehair.

Cross-border/temporary provisions of activity

The provider that is established and meets the conditions for the pursuit of craft activities in the EU Member States, EEA or the Swiss Confederation, may occasionally carry out craft activity without establishment in the Republic of Slovenia. Before the first pursuit of an activity, the provider must lodge an application with the Chamber of Craft and Small Business of Slovenia.
