Permit for exceptional actions in caves
Caves are very important natural heritage sites due to their geomorphological, geological, hydrological, zoological and botanical features. Cave animals are also very vulnerable. At the same time, caves are very vulnerable to human impact. Due to the nature conservation importance of caves in Slovenia as well as their vulnerability and endangerment, protection regimes in caves prohibit certain activities under the legislation in force.
If there is no alternative and the cave will not be harmed, the following activities may be exceptionally permitted with a permit for:
- organising public meetings and public events;
- film and video recording in an open cave;
- installation of a gate at the entrance to the cave or to a part of the cave, if this is necessary for the protection of the cave;
- scientific research or educational work: palaeontological excavations, sampling of rocks, minerals and fossils, collection of specimens of plant species, and capture of individual animal specimens in the cave, in accordance with the regulations governing nature conservation;
- carrying out archaeological research in accordance with the regulations governing the protection of cultural heritage;
- rescue exercises in an open cave conducted by a cave rescue service.
