Recognition of professional qualifications

An applicant lodging an application with the Chamber of Architecture and Spatial Planning (ZAPS) initiates the procedure for the recognition of professional qualifications.

The General Administrative Procedure Act regulates the procedure.

Within five days of receiving the application, the Chamber must notify the applicant that the application is incomplete and ask the applicant to submit the missing items.

Upon receiving a complete application, the Chamber must issue a decision within two months. The applicant must be entered in the register of the licensed architects within eight days of the date of the decision. Membership of the Chamber, which is obligatory, starts on the date of entry in the register.

Conditions

  • The applicant shall have:

    • suitable university degree in the field of landscape architectural design and :
      • at least three years work experience in the field of landscape architectural design or
    • suitable professionally oriented higher education in the field of landscape architectural design and:
      • at least five years of service in the field of landscape architectural design.

    Evidence

    For education obtained in Slovenia:

    • diploma or certificate – original, certified copy or non-certified copy with the possibility to see the original;

    For education obtained in the EU:

    • diploma, certificate, other evidence of formal education obtained in the EU – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene;
    • evidence on the content and course of training including information about the duration and syllabus of the study programme, demonstrating the number of hours or credit points of individual subjects – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene;

    For work experience:

    • written statement of a natural person or legal entity, which fulfils the conditions for a responsible designer in landscape architecture prescribed by law, that the applicant has performed a certain type of services with them including the type and time of performing such services and also responsible designers in landscape architecture the applicant cooperated with – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene.

    Competent Authority

  • An individual must meet all the conditions prescribed in the country of origin in order to practice a regulated profession.

    If the profession is not regulated in the country of origin, the individual must perform the services which the latter wishes to provide in the Republic of Slovenia in the home country continuously or for at least two years in the period of the previous ten years before he/she performing these services in the Republic of Slovenia.

    Evidence

    • Certificates issued by the competent authorities of European union Member States on the fulfilment of conditions to practice a profession (e.g. certificate of a completed professional examination, membership of a professional chamber),
    • evidence of other qualifications and professional experience (if the profession is not regulated in the country of origin). 
    The documents must be submitted in the original or in a certified copy thereof translated into Slovenian language.

    Legal basis

  • Liability insurance for damages must include liability for damages that would have been incurred by the investor or to a third party in connection with the carrying out of their activities and must cover damage resulting from negligence, error or omission of the duties of the contractor and their employees, with the amount of the annual insurance sum not less than EUR 50,000.

    If the Contractor has liability insurance for damages abroad, the insurance must cover the damage caused in the Republic of Slovenia.

    Evidence

    • An insurance contract entered into in the Republic of Slovenia or in a Contracting State, provided that this insurance contract covers damage caused in the Republic of Slovenia.

  • The applicant shall have:

    suitable university degree in the field of architectural design and at least three years work experience in the field of the preparation of spatial planning documents or

    suitable professionally oriented higher education in the field of architectural design and at least five years work experience in the field of the preparation of spatial planning documents.

    Evidence

    For education obtained in Slovenia:

    • diploma or certificate – original, certified copy or non-certified copy with the possibility to see the original;

    for education obtained in the EU:

    • diploma, certificate, other evidence of formal education obtained in the EU – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene;
    • evidence on the content and course of training including information about the duration and syllabus of the study programme, demonstrating the number of hours or credit points of individual subjects – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene;

    for work experience:

    • written statement of a natural person or legal entity, which fulfils the conditions for a responsible designer for spatial planning with the A licence prescribed by law, that the applicant has performed a certain type of desingning services with them including the type and time of performing such services and also responsible designera for spatial planning with the A licence the applicant cooperated with – original or certified copy with attached certified translation into Slovene.
