Professional testing station worker in livestock farming

A professional testing station worker is in charge of performing measurements and tests of domestic animal properties for the needs of a selection programme and for the needs of comparative tests as well as for the rearing of breeding animals.

A professional worker must be professionally trained for animal care, performing professional tasks in livestock farming, and for performing zoo-technical tasks.

Conditions

  • Professional workers at test stations must be professionally trained to carry out the tasks of animal caretaking.

    The professional training programme is carried out to acquire basic knowledge in the field of animal caretaking, and lasts from three to a maximum of six school hours. The programme covers the following topics:

    • breeding and handling of domestic animals;
    • health care of domestic animals;
    • fodder and feeding of domestic animals, prevention of the occurrence of residues in the foodstuffs of animal origin;
    • animal products;
    • handling with livestock fertilisers;
    • zoo-hygienic standards;
    • breeding programme in livestock production, organisation of breeders;
    • legislation in the field of livestock.

    Applicants lodge an application with the training provider.

    The material is prepared by the training provider in written from and in the Slovenian language for each participant.

    The costs of training and the issuing of official certificates are borne by the participants or the organisation that referred them.

    After the completed training, the participant receives the certificate of completed training.

  • Professional workers at test stations must be professionally trained to carry out zootechnical tasks.

    The professional training programme to carry out zootechnical tasks lasts from at least eight to a maximum of 16 school hours, if it includes five or more tasks. For an individual zootechnical task, the training lasts from 3 to a maximum of 4 school hours.

    The programme covers the following topics:

    • first aid (sampling, probing, stoppage of haemorrhages, wound treatment, assistance in giving birth;
    • castration of piglets younger than one week;
    • application of iron preparations against the anaemia of piglets;
    • cutting of tails in piglets and lambs up to the fourth day of age;
    • pinching or sharpening of teeth in piglet on the first day after birth;
    • maintenance and care of claws, hooves and cleaning of animals;
    • admission of breeding animals;
    • external operational examination for pregnancy;
    • marking of domestic animals;
    • application and use of permitted pharmacological means that are not bound to prescriptions and application of medications according to the instructions of a veterinarian;
    • disinfection and disinsection of livestock facilities with permitted means;
    • care and shearing of fur and wool;
    • bee-keeping tasks; clipping of bee queen's wings, and other bee-keeping tasks.

    Applicants lodge an application with the training provider.


    The material is prepared by the training provider in a written from and in Slovenian for each participant.

    The costs of training and the issuing of official certificates are borne by the participants or the organisation that referred them.

    Following the completed training, participants receive a certificate of completed training.

  • Professional workers must be professionally competent to carry out the tasks in animal husbandry.

    The professional training programme is carried out to improve, expand and deepen knowledge for the needs of breeding programmes. The programme includes the following topics:

    • general knowledge in animal husbandry,
    • prevention of inbreeding and use of breeding animals,
    • new knowledge in implementing breeding programmes, and
    • new features in regulations that regulate animal husbandry.

    Applicants lodge an application with the training provider.

    The training programmes last a maximum of eight school hours.

    The training is followed by a test of knowledge. Training providers must announce at least three dates for the test of knowledge. The test of knowledge is carried out in written form and lasts 45 minutes.

    The result of the test is assessed as " pass-a" or&quot fail-a". If an applicant fails to pass the test on three occasions, they take each further test before a three-member commission.

    The material is prepared by the training provider in written form in Slovenian for each participant.

    The costs of training, testing and issuing of official certificates are borne by the participants or the organisation that referred them to the programme.

    Following training, the participants receive a certificate of participation and a certificate of passing the test of knowledge.

    Professional training programmes must be attended every five years and completed with a test of knowledge.
