Technical inspector of active fire protection
The inspecting and testing of a built-in active fire safety system may only be performed by a technical inspector, stated on the authorisation granted by the inspection provider.
The technical inspector must pass required tests and meet the following conditions:
- the inspector passed a professional test in the electro technical field or in mechanical engineering according to construction regulations;
- passed the general and special part of the professional test in fire protection;
- passed professional test in health and safety at work;
- a minimum of five years of work experience as the responsible project designer in designing installation systems for active fire protection or as a technical inspector of the installed active fire protection systems;
- meeting conditions for occasional work in explosive facilities due to the danger of working in explosive facilities;
- in the past two years, the inspector completed professional training in at least three installed active fire protection systems.
A technical inspector with the authorisation for responsible designing of fire safety, registered in the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers, does not have to pass a fire protection test.

At least higher professional education in electrical or mechanical engineering and at least 5 years of work experience as a responsible engineer in designing installation systems for active fire protection or as a technical reviewer of the installed active fire protection systems.

The basic professional examination with the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers is divided into two parts:
- The general part is the same for all applicants and is oral.
- The special part is different, depending on the type of examination, and is oral and written.
The conditions to sit an exam:
a) In a certain type of engineering design:

The costs of the examination (total of EUR 616.00).

Exam resit:
Rest examinations: the candidate resits an examination for the subject where they received a negative grade. The candidate applies with a valid application form 30 days prior to the examination date. The candidate can resit the examination several times, if it is taken in 2 years from the first application. The costs of a resit:

The professional exam in fire protection encompasses a general and special part.
The general part entails a regulatory framework for the field, the basics of fire and extinguishing, preventive measures and active measures for fire protection. The special part encompasses the preparation and oral presentation of the written assignment that entails the employee training programme, fire safety order preparation, fire protection plan and evacuation plan.
The price of the professional examination amounts to:
- knowledge test and general part of the examination amount EUR 125;
- general and special part of the professional examination amount to EUR 155;
- special part of the professional examination or a resit amount to EUR 50;
- a resit of one subject of the general part of the professional examination or knowledge test amounts to EUR 50.

- A copy of the higher education diploma, if the activity involves the fire protection measures in facilities with very low or low fire hazard or at least higher education of the first degree or higher professional education or similar education, if the activity involves the implementation of fire protection measures in facilities with medium or high fire hazard.

The professional exam in safety and health at work examination encompasses the written and oral part.
The general part is carried out by the employer or the employer's responsible person, if they wish to take over the management and ensuring safety at work.
The written part of the professional examination encompasses the preparation of a written assignment, with which the candidate proves his qualified capacity to prepare professional grounds for the risk assessment and safety statement pursuant to the rules of profession related to the safety and health at work and regulations.
The instructions for the preparation of the written assignment may also help the candidate.
The candidate can use a list of regulations and recommended literature.
Candidates can apply for the professional exam at the Ministry of the Interior at least 45 days prior to the envisaged date for performing the professional exam, i.e. with the application form that can be sent in electronic form to e-mail: gp.mnz(at)gov.si.
The application form must also comprise the statement of the achieved level and type of education.
The costs of the professional safety and health at work for direct budget users amount EUR 146.73 and EUR 161.18 for other users.

A technical inspector must pass the test for occasional work in explosive facilities due to the danger of working in explosive facilities, which can be endangered due to explosive atmospheres.
The exam content comprise topics on what are explosive atmospheres, what chemical any physical circumstances are the cause of their occurrence. Candidates must be aware in what cases ignition can be caused and how to prevent it. They learn about the equipment that is appropriate for installation in explosive facilities and how to handle it. They must be informed on the legal regulation of the anti-explosion protection.
Besides the basic training, workers must attend periodical trainings every two years.
The price for basic training seminar is EUR 190, the price of a refresher training is EUR 150.
