Chief cook
The chief cook is the cook responsible for the preparation of food on a ship. The chief cook must meet the requirements regarding age, training, service at sea and health condition.
Conditions

The candidate must have vocational secondary education according to the educational programme for cooks or training in accordance with the ILO guidelines on training ship’s cooks.

The candidate must work for at least 6 months in the ship’s galley.

An individual must fulfil the prescribed health conditions for working on a ship.
A seafarer must have a valid medical certificate during the entire period of working on a ship.
If the medical certificate expires during navigation, it remains valid until the next port of call, where an authorised medical practitioner is available; however, this period must not be longer than three months.
